Toilet Learning: A Developmental Approach
Supporting Independence with Confidence and Respect
Toilet learning is an important milestone in a child’s development, but it is often misunderstood as something that must be taught, rushed, or achieved according to a predetermined timeline. At InterMontessori and Trillium Bilingual Montessori, we view toilet learning differently.
Toilet learning is a developmental process that unfolds when a child is physically, emotionally, and cognitively ready. Our role as adults is not to train children, but to prepare the environment, provide guidance, and support their growing independence with patience, consistency, and respect.
